Skylar's Doll

Earlier this summer my friend contacted me to make a doll for her sweet daughter's birthday. I loved making it for her. Such a lovely doll for such a lovely girl.

The dress material with cupcakes and polka dots is pure sweetness.

And, of course, the cupcake ribbon headband adds a touch of decadence.

The thigh high boots with lace trim are one of my favorite parts!

Such a delight to make and send to dear Skylar.

elephant parade

I made up this elephant pattern 5 or 6 years ago and just love it. I love how with a simple change of fabric the entire elephant  style changes. The hand stitched ears add that perfect touch.

quilt for Anna

Last year my friend, Anna, brought me a quilt that she had tried to make. It just working out for her and wanted to barter services. I was so excited! You see, Anna works wonders with ceramics and I couldn't wait to get myself some of her pottery.

It took a bit of work but I was happy to do it. And she did give me the layout of how she wanted it and the corner blocks on the quilt top finished. I assembled the top as best as I could and wound up with this beauty.

I had a great time free motion quilting it, too. There are the flower shapes along the border. I used chalk to hand draw out the flower shapes and then  traced the chalk with the free motion foot. I quilted in the ditch on the center. It emphasized that beautiful pattern.

There wasn't enough of any one fabric to do a solid backing and I didn't want Anna to have to go out and buy any more fabric so I pieced these blocks together. I did my best to do blocks similar to the blocks and patterns on the quilt top. I really like how it turned out.

Here's a close up of the quilting in the ditch for the center quilt top pattern.

And the free motion flowers. This was my first attempt and this design and I'm quite proud of it. This is such a beautiful and cherished quilt.

I can't wait to show you the bowls I received in return!!

pom pom blanket

I whipped up this beauty the other week. I just want to snuggle up every baby in it. The top is by Anna Maria Horner and I used a solid on the back. I added the light pink pom poms on the longer sides.

I stitched the blanket every few inches so that it will stay secure but still have a little loftiness and snuggliness to it.

Those pom poms are the perfect whimsical touch.

Having a basic solid on the back with the contrasting color stitches is a great balance with the beautiful busy fabric on the front.

Delightful.

Alexis' quilt

I made quilt a few months back for a friend's baby girl. It was one of my scrap quilts. I adore scrap quilts because 1)I like the look of them and 2)I get to use up fabric I already have lying around in my scrap bag.

I made this one to look bright, fresh, and sunny.

I quilted it in a meandering pattern with my free motion quilting foot.

I used a solid light green to balance out the busyness of the quilt top and the backing.

I adore this feminine floral backing. Perfect to wrap around a sweet little baby girl.

This is one of the very last quilts that I am making for friend's babies as a present. The last one will be for my friend Emilie. But, other than that, I am done. It's just too much time, money, and supplies for me to be making them for free for friends having babies. I do have a plan to start sewing quilts to sell. My fingers are crossed that that plan works out  but who really knows with the crazy summer we've had and still have planned and with school starting at the end of next month.

his teacher's quilt

His teacher had a sweet baby girl and he wanted to make a quilt for her. He picked out all of the fabrics. SO stinkin' cute.

He was so proud of the quilt and I was so proud of him. I didn't have a full piece of fabric for the backing so I made a strip style backing.

I quilted in diagonals across the squares to give it a comfy feel.

I added a simple green binding to help balance out the busyness.

Lexi's quilt

I gave this quilt to my friend a few weeks ago. I enjoyed making this scrap quilt. I have so many scraps that I needed to dig into.

I used the remnants of some of my favorite fabrics. I'm glad that they were going to a sweet little babe to be snuggled with.

I quilted it using my walking foot and quilted each one individually. I really like the look it gave the quilt.

After it was quilted I flipped it over and saw that it looked like a quilted tetris. Awesome-ness!

I just can't get over the comfy snuggly look of a quilted quilt. It makes me happy to think of lots of sweet little babies snuggled in quilts made by me.:)

doll quilt #2

Last year, in August I hand stitched entirely and hand quilted this doll quilt for Alice. It's gone now. :( SO SAD! I'm still hoping that it will be found under or in something randomly. But after awhile I realized that I just needed to make her another. This one is not hand stitched at all but I did alot of the same fabrics as the first one. It still needs a binding but that's not happening tonight. Alice is snuggling with it in bed.

Evie's quilt

This sweet quilt had been in the works for months. It just sat in the to-do pile only needing a binding for months. I'm so happy to have just finished the binding and sent it on its way. It's already being snuggled up with a sweet baby girl.

The backing is just a different color way of the 4th fabric from the top on the quilt top. I quilted it in a free motion meandering design.

I really enjoy the pop of solid color the binding gives it. It goes so well with the top.

Ava's quilt

My good friend, Larin, recently had baby girl Ava. She is their 5th child and 4th girl. And in continuing with celebrating each baby, wether it be the 1st or 11th, I made this bright and colorful crib quilt for her.

I used some of my fav prints in this one. Plus, I adore how cheery it ended up. I did make my quilt top to fit my backing.

I used a Jennifer Paganelli print for the backing. I had been saving this print for just the right project and this was it! It adds an element of sophistication to the quilt. I used my purple tufted tweets print for the binding {also in the quilt top}. I love the bold color and the element of fun it brings.

I tried something with this quilt that I hadn't done before. In the free motion quilting that I did I added sweet baby Ava's name along the white border on the quilt top. I'm really happy with how it turned out. :)
