Blue and Gold Banquet cake

Josh ended up being on a job for Todd's blue and gold banquet. Last minute I realized that it was me that was supposed to be doing the cake with Todd. The candy shop and grocery was raided and this is what we ended up with. Neither Todd or myself had ever done a cake like this but it was pretty fun. Just time consuming.

He won an award for the #1 National Park. Even though all the boys won an award Todd was stoked about his. :)

I adore his native american designs on the tepee.

I think the fire circle out of chocolate rocks is the best.

We raided the mini animals and found the eagle, beaver, & raccoon.

chocolate cake

I've made a couple of these Pioneer Woman's Big Chocolate Cakes recently. They are SO delicious.

I also follow her instructions for chocolate curls that is found in the Ladd's Birthday episode. {which I just found that the recipe for them is posted on Food Network, of course} I first made this cake a year ago for Kate's 4th birthday. I had seen the cake on The Pioneer Woman and knew I had to make it, it looked delish, and the first occasion coming was Kate's party. So, I told her, "You're turning 4. It has 4 layers. Perfect, see?"

I've been told by Josh that I need to make this again, but for the family this time. He really wants some. Who wouldn't?

And those chocolate curls? Perfection on top of delicious perfection.

the birthday cake

I made Alice's cake entirely from scratch. Dude.

I used the Pioneer Woman's chocolate cake recipe. It's a sheet cake recipe made into a 4 layer cake. Except for this one. On this one, I accidentally destroyed one of the layers when I was making it flat. Whoops. But I like the 3 layer height for my 2 year old's party. And it's delicious and that is the most important thing anyways.

The frosting is my Mother-in-law's recipe. YUM!

I made it a white cake with ruffles because it looked so sweet {and scrumptious!}.

I really liked how well the ruffles held up with this frosting.

And the white looked great with the decor, that was a plus. :) And it was delicious. Have I told you how tasty it was, yet?

Looking at the pictures of this yummy cake was too much, so now I'm munching on one of the last few slices. Delish!
